West Coast senior coach Adam Simpson believes his level-headed squad is well equipped to navigate any challenges thrown its way during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to Channel 7 last night, Simpson said the Eagles were taking a pragmatic approach to the situation as new information regarding the outbreak and composition of the 2020 AFL season came to light on a daily basis.
“Things are changing so quickly across the board. Our priority no doubt is the safety and health and wellbeing of our players,” Simpson said.
“I suppose from a performance point of view the players are the ones we’ve got to get prepared.
“Trying to get our players right for training, trying to find out what the right balance is with time at the club and getting ourselves right is critical.
“We’ve got a really mature group which is pretty tight knit; I’m sure that will play us back down the track.
“We’ll flip into Melbourne as quick as we can. We’ve still got to work through some things first though.”
Simpson said the club was doing everything possible to safeguard its players from contracting the Coronavirus and confirmed that no one from the organisation had presented with symptoms at present.
“The players are in isolation as much as they can be at the moment along with our coaches and football department,” Simpson said.
“No one is showing any signs at this stage. Our players are being really diligent and like the rest of society we are trying to look out for each other.
“We’re all in this together.”
