The West Coast Eagles launched the 2020 edition of the club’s Soar Female Wellbeing Series at Santa Maria College last week.
At the request of the school, AFLW vice-captain Dana Hooker presented to 22 Year 11 students on the topics of elite training and the demands that come with being a female athlete.
Belridge Senior High School opted for a different approach, with 22 of their Year 11 and 12 female students spending a day in the classrooms at Mineral Resources Park.
Hooker and West Coast Fever netballer Ingrid Colyer presented on four education pieces covering the topics of developing a healthy relationship with food (nutrition and recovery); overcoming the female Q angle (athletic movement and injury prevention); body image and the impact of the menstrual cycle on performance and elite training demands.
A further eight schools are scheduled to receive the education pieces this year, including schools from as far away as Northam Senior High School, Cape Naturaliste College and Christmas Island District High School.
The program is aimed at females aged 14-18 years.
