West Coast has named a strong squad for its practice match hit-out against fellow AFLW newcomer Richmond on Sunday.
The Eagles and Tigers will battle it out at Punt Road Oval in their lone official pre-season fixture before the start of the 2020 home and away campaign.
West Coast, who will take a squad of 22 to Melbourne, will field two players that weren’t available for the club’s match simulation exercise against Fremantle last Saturday.
Experienced AFLW campaigner Kellie Gibson will make her first outing in blue and gold, as will crafty defender Ashton Hill.
Gibson, who claimed a premiership with Adelaide in 2017 and has 16 AFLW appearances to her name and, is raring to pull on the Eagles’ revered wings since joining the club during the sign and trade period.
Hill, who was a member of East Fremantle’s 2019 WAFLW premiership-winning side, will play her first AFLW pre-season contest on Sunday.
With the exception of injured ruck Alicia Janz, West Coast’s entire leadership group – Emma Swanson, Dana Hooker, Maddy Collier and Courtney Guard – have been named to take on the Tigers at their traditional home ground.
Gaelic football converts Niamh and Grace Kelly will back up after promising debuts against the Dockers, as will former international rugby star Mhicca Carter.
Parris Laurie will lead the ruck division with the help of joint 2019 WAFLW Dhara Kerr medallist Danika Pisconeri.
Midfielders Kate Orme and Emily Bonser have been named as emergencies for the contest, as has versatile tall Andrea Gilmore, who was recently elevated to the Eagles’ playing list.
Bouncedown is 1pm AEST at Punt Road Oval.
