West Coast Eagles key defender Tom Barrass has undergone foot surgery and will miss a chunk of pre-season training as a result.
The premiership backman had a similar problem with his other foot early in the 2019 campaign and missed eight games – making his return to football for the WAFL Eagles against East Fremantle at New Choice Homes Park on the same day that Nic Naitanui resumed from a serious knee injury.
It is anticipated Barrass will recuperate for about eight weeks and that he will be ready to play at the start of the 2020 season.
Fellow key defender Jeremy McGovern also had lower leg surgery in the pre-season.
