Devotion to the West Coast Eagles is something we love. While some members have taken to naming their children after past greats, others have our logo permanently inked to their bodies. For our round six member of the round Shirree Blazeski, her love of the club extended all the way into her wedding day.
“We vowed on our wedding day to always support the mighty Eagles, and my husband (an avid soccer fan) honoured the vow by becoming a member with me” Shirree said.
A lifelong fan of the Eagles, Shirree was born with vision in only one eye, making her a truly one-eyed fan from a young age.
“The Eagles have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I grew up in a household of loud “Carn Eagles!!” chants each week.”
Like thousands of other diehard West Coast Eagles fans, Shirree can’t imagine her life without her team.
“Isn’t it just the norm to schedule weekend catch ups, birthday parties, social events and the like around the footy fixture? Even our wedding and honeymoon were scheduled around the footy,” explained Shirree.
With a life full of great footy memories, one match stands out as a highlight.
“Hands down, walking into the MCG for the first time ever, and being jammed with 100,000 other people when the final siren blew on the last Saturday on September in 2006 was breathtaking.
“To experience a winning grand final in the flesh is truly what every footy fan’s dreams are made of!”
Shirree and her family (including her three-week old second child) were also lucky enough to be present at last year’s Grand Final, and although the result wasn’t the same, the day was still special.
No matter what match it is, Shirree has an almost indescribable love for footy.
“I get butterflies in the lead up, the hairs on my arms stand on end as the team runs onto the ground, and my heart races with each goal,” Shirree said.
