The West Coast Eagles have been awarded the Herb Elliot Medal after being honoured by the West Australian Institute of Sport at the Hall of Champions ceremony in Perth.
The Eagles shared the award with golfer, rising star Hannah Green who won the 2019 Women’s PGA Championship.
The Herb Elliot Medal, named after Western Australia’s champion Olympic middle distance runner acknowledges a team or individual which celebrates an influential sporting moment over the voting period of September 1st 2018 to October 31st 2019.
The Eagles were celebrated for their remarkable 2018 premiership season and grand final victory over Collingwood.
In accepting the award, Chief Executive Trevor Nisbett paid tribute to the commitment and dedication of the team’s playing group, coaches and staff.
“The resilience of the playing group and commitment by the coaching group and support staff were very significant for the success of that season. It is an honour for the club to accept this award named after a champion West Australian athlete,” Nisbett said.
Hannah Green who is an avid West Coast Eagles fan has soared to 19th ranked in the world after just her second season on the LPGA.
