East Perth is still without a win in season 2017 following a 91-point defeat at the hands of Subiaco on Friday.
The Royals failed to capitalise on a quick start as the Lions seized the momentum of the match midway through the first quarter and stormed home to a 20.15 (135) to 6.8 (44) victory at Leederville Oval.
A fourth-minute opening goal to Will Magginness and quick follow up from Shayne Hille gave East Perth fans hope of a good Friday performance, but Subiaco booted four unanswered goals before the siren to secure a 16-point lead at the first break.
A hard ball get and accurate pass by foot from first-year Eagle Daniel Venables set up Hille for his second goal of the game early in the second quarter and a long bomb from Dom Sheed kept the Royals in touch at the 10 minute mark, but, as has been the case all year, East Perth’s intensity around the contest slipped and Subiaco kicked five-straight majors to increase its advantage to 45 points at half-time.
All hope of a second-half come back was snaffled out when Subiaco’s Liam Ryan booted three straight goals at the beginning of the penultimate quarter.
The Royals showed some fight in the final quarter, with Hille collecting his third goal of the afternoon and Paddy Brophy snapping truly on his left boot for the game's last goal, but too much damage had been done early.
In spite of being under siege all night, East Perth had several solid contributors.
Lewis Jetta amassed a game-high 36 disposals and was influential in the clinches and on the wing, Eric Mackenzie stood tall in defence and amassed 25 touches and 13 marks while Mark Hutchings toiled away at the coal face for 32 possessions, four tackles and three marks.
Fraser McInnes won 22 hit outs, Luke Partington collected 27 disposals and half back Paddy Brophy got his hands on the ball 25 times.
Dom Sheed accumulated 24 touches, first-year players Josh Rotham and Kurt Mutimer gathered 22 and 21 disposals respectively and rookie Jordan Snadden won his own ball 19 times.
Malcolm Karpany had 18 disposals, defender Tom Gorter took six marks to go with his 17 possessions and Tom Lamb and Daniel Venables both collected seven touches.
