Developing West Coast Eagles big man Fraser McInnes says East Perth's win against Perth will mean nothing if the Royals don’t back it up against Peel this weekend.
The Royals broke through for their first win of the season on Saturday, but the 23-year-old says East Perth must deliver the same style of hard-nosed footy it produced against the Demons week-in, week-out.
“It’s certainly a relief, the pressure comes off a little bit,” McInnes said.
“There’s still plenty of hard work to do, a win doesn’t mean much if you don’t come out and back it up next week.
“That’s the standard now, we have to bring that every week.
“There’s been plenty of outside noise as well, but the boys stuck together and ground out the win which was nice.”
McInnes said it was not sweeping game plan changes, merely a focus on mindset and fundamentals that helped the Royals register its first victory of the year.
“Luke Webster been working really hard and we tweaked a few things, nothing major, but a few things during the week,” he said.
“We just altered a few things with the way we’ve been playing, probably more tidied up than altered.
“It came down to intent and the contest, so I’m proud of the boys for delivering there.”
McInnes - who was adjuded best afield following his 25-disposal, 12-mark and three-goal effort against Perth - was glad with his personal output but credited the win to a 22-man effort at Leederville Oval.
“It was good to catch a couple," he said.
"I’ve been splitting my time up forward and in the ruck. I spent more time forward (on Saturday); it’s always good to hit the scoreboard,” he said.
“Finding that balance, we’ve probably needed another avenue to goal, so my job was to provide a contest, but I stuck a couple as well.
“The credit has to go up the field for the boys to win it at the contest and get it forward for us to finish off.”
