The world is facing a waste epidemic and Western Australia is at the epicentre of the crisis.
Did you know that WA is the second largest generator of waste and second worst recycling state in Australia?
This is a challenge we all need to address, particularly given that China – who has purchased our recycling for the past 20 years – is becoming far more stringent about the type of recycled waste they are willing to buy.
If we improve our recycling habits, China will accept more of our waste, thus reducing what ends up in landfill in WA.
Here at the West Coast Eagles, many of our players, coaches and staff are passionate about limiting our impact on the environment – and we want you to join us on our journey to becoming a more sustainable club.
If we can help educate our 600,000-plus fans to be more conscious about their recycling habits it could make a massive difference to the WA environment.
They say a journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step, so we’re aiming to begin our exciting journey at Optus Stadium on Sunday with your help.
We’re calling on the blue and gold army to band together and put your waste in the appropriate bins after the match so we can divert as much waste away from landfill as possible.
Even if you’re not at the game, you can play your part by saying no to single use plastic, recycling the waste you create and bringing your reusable bags to the shops.
With your help, we believe we can make a real difference.
Let us know how you’re going on game day by using the hashtag #eaglesrethinkwaste on social media!
Venturing into the sustainable space is new for the club, but we hope by demonstrating a desire to improve our waste management practices and showing our fans the journey we are taking we can encourage them to do it with us.
