Adam Simpson is hopeful of having dynamic defensive duo Shannon Hurn and Jeremy McGovern at his disposal for West Coast’s round 19 clash with North Melbourne.
The senior coach told Seven News Perth that Hurn and McGovern were a good chance to face the Kangaroos at Optus Stadium despite sustaining injuries in Alice Springs at the weekend.
Hurn was a late withdrawal from the starting side after incurring a calf strain during the team’s captain run on Saturday, while McGovern turned an ankle during the fourth quarter of the Eagles’ clash with the Demons.
He left the field for a period of time before returning to play out the game.
It was a slight calf strain at the captain’s run (for Hurn),” Simpson said.
“He woke up this morning and couldn’t feel it, so we’re hopeful he’ll make a return and play this week. It is a six-day break – it will be seven days since he hurt it – he’ll be racing the clock one that one, but we think he’ll be okay.
“The early signs are good (for McGovern).
“I think it’s just your standard rolled ankle, which you don’t get very many of them anymore. It’s normally something more sinister, so we think he’s okay.
“He’ll have a light week and should be available this weekend.”
The club will offer a more comprehensive update in tomorrow's St John of God Health Care Injury Report.
