West Coast Eagles Jack Darling, Jeremy McGovern, Shannon Hurn and Elliot Yeo were tonight rewarded for their exemplary home and away campaigns by being named in the 2019 Virgin Australia AFL All Australian team.
Darling slipped on his first All Australian blazer after piecing together the most productive season of his nine-year AFL career.
The 27-year-old booted a personal best 54 goals from 22 appearances, which placed him equal third in the Coleman Medal count behind winner Jeremy Cameron (67 goals) and runner-up Ben Brown (64).
While he was a force to be reckoned with in front of goal, Darling also ruled the skies – ranking seventh in the league for total contested marks and grabs inside 50 – and was a beast at ground level, amassing 27 tackles inside 50 (ranked 12th in the AFL) throughout the year.
McGovern became the second Eagle to win four straight All Australian honours, following in the footsteps of club great Dean Cox.
His name now also sits alongside the likes of Peter Matera and Ben Cousins, the only other Eagles to have four All Australian blazers in their wardrobe.
The 27-year-old earned his latest gong follow a season where he ranked second in the AFL for total intercepts, fourth in total contested marks and 12th in total one percenters.
Hurn earned his second-straight representative honour following another consistent campaign.
The no-fuss Eagles skipper was solid as a rock in defence, ranking second in the league for total intercepts, fourth for contested marks, sixth in total marks and 12th in total one percenters.
Hurn, who was again named vice-captain of the representative side, did not attend the glittering ceremony, instead electing to remain in Perth to continue his preparations for next Thursday’s elimination final clash with Essendon.
Dual John Worsfold medallist Yeo doubled down on his All Australian honours by winning his second representative blazer, again as an interchange player.
The electric 25-year-old was simply superb throughout the qualifying rounds, ranking second for tackles, sixth for centre clearances, seventh for inside 50s and 10th for clearances in the league.
Joint vice-captain Luke Shuey, dependable defender Brad Sheppard and two-time All Australian midfielder Andrew Gaff were named in the 40-man squad but were not selected in the final 22.
