Promising tall Archer Reid and small forward Loch Rawlinson have extended their draftee contracts to remain in the west.

Vic Country product Reid has added two more years to stay in blue and gold until at least the end of 2027, while South Australian rookie Rawlinson has re-signed for next season.

The pair have become close friends during their first year at Mineral Resources Park and are buoyant about the club’s future.

“Looking at what we’ve got and really getting to know the boys in my first year I can really see that the club is going somewhere, and I really wanted to be part of it,” Reid said.

“I feel like us young boys are really going to drive it.

“Me and Loch have become quite close so it’s great that he’s with me and can’t wait to see what he can produce next year as well.”

Reid was an impressive performer for the WAFL Eagles after overcoming a knee injury which hampered his pre-season.

The strong-marking 203cm forward kicked 17 goals in 15 games and was an AFL emergency on several occasions.

“I’m keen to get into my first real pre-season and get started for next year,” Reid said.

“The coaches told me that I was pretty close to getting a game but obviously it didn’t happen, but that just really drives me into next year wanting to have a solid year and maybe play ones.”

Rawlinson got a taste of AFL level during Gather Round in the Adelaide Hills close to where he grew up.

The 19-year-old also made 15 appearances for the WAFL Eagles, averaging nearly 10 disposals and three tackles, while kicking 10 majors.

“I’ve built some really strong relationships with the boys after only being here for a year, which has been really good for me,” Rawlinson said.

“Really settled into life here, love living here and just really excited for what’s next for the club.”

General Manager Football Gavin Bell said the club was excited about the young Eagles’ potential.

“It’s great news for the club that Archer and Loch have re-signed. We’ve been really pleased with their progress in their first seasons,” Bell said.

“Archer worked hard to get back from his knee injury and he was next in line for an opportunity in our forward line, where we have good depth with our talls.

“We see him being an important part of our squad in years to come, and he also has the ability to play in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck if required.

“Loch has some exciting attributes with his speed and defensive pressure, and has shown determination to get the best out of himself.

“We’re keen to see him continue to develop next season.”
