Key defensive duo Tom Barrass and Harry Edwards could put their hands up to face Carlton at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Edwards is expected to be available following a head knock in the win over Gold Coast, while Barrass has cleared the concussion protocols but is dealing with hamstring and back stiffness.

“Tom’s had some general back and hamstring stiffness. He did train fully today, so we’ll see how he goes on Thursday, so he’ll be a test again for this week,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“If Harry full trains Thursday, as we expect, he’ll play this week as well.”

Emerging duo Campbell Chesser (groin) and Coby Burgiel (hamstring) are also in the mix to play football this weekend.

Chesser was ruled out of the WAFL Eagles’ clash with East Perth last round after experiencing some minor groin soreness.

“’Chess’ had some groin soreness late last week. We didn’t want to be taking any risk with him, so we took him out of the game last weekend,” Inness said.

“But, again, we expect him to train on Thursday and play this weekend

“Burgiel with a hamstring has missed for the last four-or-five weeks. He trained today and if he gets through training on Thursday then we expect to see him out there on the weekend.”

In disappointing news, defender Josh Rotham (abdominal) and wingman Luke Edwards (concussion) have been ruled out of the final two matches.

“’Roth’ with his ab, just with the time of the year, it’s probably going to be too tight for him to play again this year, so we’re going to put him on ice for the year,” Inness said.

“Luke Edwards still had some concussion signs late last week so because of the time of year we’re going to be really conservative with him and he won’t play again this year.”

Experienced midfielder Dom Sheed underwent a foot operation on Tuesday, giving him the best chance to have a clear run at training this coming off-season.
