Emerging West Coast Eagles big man Harry Barnett has re-committed to the club, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Mineral Resources Park until at least the end of 2026.
The 203cm ruckman, drafted from West Adelaide with pick 23 in the 2022 National Draft, has already had a taste of senior football having played a game in each of his two seasons to date.
“I’ve signed on for a couple more years at West Coast,” Barnett revealed this week. “I’m really excited to develop my craft with the boys and I really believe in what the club’s offering and they really believe in me, which is shown through this contract offering.
“I really like the unity of the younger boys, there’s 21 or 22 of us under 22 and it’s exciting to move forward with that group of boys.
“I haven’t strung together the footy I would have liked. Last year there was availability issues in the ones and this year I had an injury which set me back for about four weeks or so.
“This contract is a sign of their believing in me although I haven’t showed a lot on the track just yet, but hopefully that will come.
“Ruck, I believe is the hardest position to play on the field, and learning that craft from Ryan Turnbull, Bailey Williams and now Matt Flynn is really going to progress my development.”
Barnett is part of a group of young ruckmen and key forwards who are developing at the club and look to have bright futures, along with Coen Livingstone and Archer Reid.
“We are really excited at the way Harry is coming along,” said General Manager Football Gavin Bell. “We are seeing encouraging signs in Harry’s game and we look forward to further progress over the next two-and-a-half years.”
