West Coast Eagles draftee Archer Reid and second-year speedster Coby Burgiel are both set to line up in the WAFL Eagles’ RAC Derby curtain-raiser against Peel at Optus Stadium on Saturday.
Key forward Reid, who arrived at the club with a knee problem, is ready to play his first match in blue and gold in an exciting step forward.
Burgiel is in line to return following appendix surgery recently and bolster the team that upset the reigning WAFL premiers East Fremantle last Sunday.
“In good news, Archer Reid gets to play his first game for the club this week, which is great, and Coby Burgiel has recovered from his appendix,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“They will both play this weekend in the WAFL.”
West Coast will be forced to make one change to the team that defeated Richmond after wingman Luke Edwards entered concussion protocols.
Meanwhile, Liam Ryan impressed off half-back for the WAFL Eagles in his first game since damaging his hamstring during last year’s round three RAC Derby, and pulled up well from about 70 minutes game time.
“Luke had a head injury assessment during the game which unfortunately he failed, so he’s in the concussion protocol at the moment,” Inness said.
“After 12 months out of the game we saw Liam on the weekend in the WAFL. He got through the game really well.”
The Eagles are still working through the hamstring injury suffered by versatile tall Callum Jamieson that saw him withdrawn late from the Richmond match.
“Unfortunately for Cal, he was ruled out of the game on the weekend with some hamstring soreness,’ Inness said.
“We’ve scanned it and now we’ll go through a protocol with how long he’ll be missing, but we’ll give some updates in the next couple of days.”
