Rising West Coast Eagles youngsters Ryan Maric and Luke Edwards have both overcome injuries received last week and have been named in the extended squad to play Richmond at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
Maric has dodged serious injury amid initial fears he had fractured ribs and a punctured lung.
He was cleared to travel home from Gather Round with his teammates but has recovered remarkably well from a heavy knock received in a marking contest against Sydney.
Maric left the ground in the third quarter and was taken to hospital for further assessment.
Edwards was subbed out of the contest in the second quarter with hamstring awareness but, like Maric, he trained on Monday and backed up again at the captain’s run today to convince the match committee he was fit for selection.
That meant that all players who competed against Sydney in Mt Barker last Saturday have retained their places, including debutant Loch Rawlinson who entered the game when Edwards was subbed out.
Coming into the 26-man squad, which will be refined at 3pm WA time tomorrow, are veteran wingman Andrew Gaff, experienced defender Alex Witherden and half-forward Tyler Brockman, who could not be considered last week because he was working through concussion protocols which he has now passed.
Gaff and Witherden have continued to work hard at WAFL Eagles level since being left out after the round one loss to Port Adelaide.
