A five-goal masterclass by Fraser McInnes propelled the WAFL Eagles to their second-straight practice match victory on Saturday.
The WAFL team held an inspired East Perth outfit at bay to record a 12.10 (82) to 10.8 (68) win at Leederville Oval.
West Coast’s captain was the star of the contest, kicking three first-half goals and two majors in the final term to help his side beat the club's former WAFL affiliates.
McInnes started the pre-season fixture in ominous form, booting the opening goal just two minutes after the first bounce.
The Eagles shot two goals clear when midfielder Matt Allen reeled in a contested mark and kicked truly from 30m, but the home side hit back with a late major to reduce the deficit to seven points at quarter time.
East Perth fired the first shot two minutes into the second quarter, but McInnes answered with his second goal 10 minutes later and onballer Hamish Brayshaw increased West Coast’s advantage with back-to-back goals.
McInnes collected his third major on the stroke of half-time to give the visitors a 19-point advantage heading into the main break.
The Royals raced out of the blocks in the penultimate term, kicking three-consecutive goals within the space of three minutes to level scores at 41 points apiece.
West Coast responded with majors to Brendon Ah Chee and Keegan Brooksby, but East Perth refused to lie down and booted two more goals to again tie the game up with a quarter to play.
McInnes led from the front at the beginning of the final term, slotting back-to-back goals to edge the Eagles ahead, and 2018 draftee Bailey Williams capped off the 14-point win with a huge hanger and true set shot late in the piece.
Allen (28 disposals, one goal), Brayshaw (23, two goals) and Ah Chee (20, one goal) led the Eagles’ midfield charge.
They were well supported by Brayden Ainsworth (19 disposals), Jackson Nelson (18 disposals) and 2018 draftee Luke Foley, who collected 12 disposals and a goal in his first outing since arriving at the club last year.
Kurt Mutimer (23 disposals, 10 rebound 50s) starred in defence alongside Josh Rotham (17 disposals), Francis Watson (12 disposals), Brodie Riach (12 disposals) and Harry Edwards (six disposals, four marks).
