In an exciting combination of both youth and experience, nine more West Coast Eagles have signed contract extensions for the 2024 season.
AFLW stalwart Dana Hooker will once again suit up in the blue and gold next season after extending her contract for another year.
Hooker, an integral part of the Eagles’ leadership group, will enter her ninth season of AFLW, her sixth at West Coast, after making her debut in the inaugural 2017 season.
Experienced defender Evie Gooch has also committed for another year, her expertise and football smarts an important piece of the evolving Eagles group.
The 28-year-old finished last season in impressive form, her presence in the Eagle’s backline was troublesome for the opposition, while her poise and composure under pressure was inspiring for her emerging teammates.
In promising signs for West Coast’s young talent, first year players Zoe Wakfer, Emily Elkington and Mackenzie Webb will all return for the 2024 season, the three teenagers showing growth and development since debuting throughout last season.
Defensive duo Sasha Goranova and Beth Schilling were both dealt injury blows throughout the 2023 season, but will also be returning to the Eagle’s lineup for 2024.
Exciting young midfielder Abbygail Bushby and emerging utility Jaide Britton have put pen to paper, and will remain at the club until at least the end of the 2025 season.
AFLW List Manager Jordan Loxley is pleased with the combination of talent signing on with the club.
“It’s been great to be able have a mix of both youth and experience sign on for next season,” Loxley said.
“We’ve seen great development from some of the first-year players and we are excited to see them continue to develop next season.
“Having experienced leaders like Dana and Evie go around again is highly beneficial for a young and developing group, and they will be excellent role models for our new recruits.”
