Where and when: Mineral Resources Park, Sunday, September 17, 1:05pm
TV: Live on 7Mate, Fox Sports, Kayo and the AFL Live Official app.
Last time we met: This game will be the first time that the Eagles have played Carlton for premiership points in their five-season AFLW history.
What it means for the Eagles: West Coast have had a rollercoaster start to the season, finishing with a respectable eight-point loss to the Dockers in the round one RAC Derby, followed by a 73-point demolition at the hands of Gold Coast in round two. The Eagles are still chasing their first win of the season and will be looking to get over the line in their first home game of 2023. Following an encouraging pre-season of hard work on and off the track, West Coast need to start pulling the pieces together on field to get themselves some reward for effort.
The stat: Aimee Schmidt will play her first game of the season this weekend after recovering from a quad strain. Schmidt currently sits on top of the Eagles AFLW all-time scoring leader board, kicking 12 goals from her 19 games in the blue and gold.
Oppo in focus: Carlton’s Mimi Hill will be one to watch this week, she’s a damaging midfielder and comes into this game on the back of an impressive performance last week against the Kangaroos, finishing with 31 disposals, including 24 handballs.
It’s a big week for: The Eagles midfielders
West Coast struggled in the midfield last week against Gold Coast, unable to take control of the ball and move it efficiently inside forward 50. The mids will have been polishing their skills at training this week and will hopefully produce some better movement around the ground that converts to scoreboard pressure.
Big call: West Coast will bounce back from their disappointing game last weekend and get their first win of the season in front of their home crowd.
