West Coast will open its 2023 AFLW season with a bang when the Eagles face Fremantle for the RAC Derby on Sunday, September 3 at 3:05pm (WST) at Fremantle Oval.

The promising fixture sees West Coast secure six out of 10 games in their home state, five of those at Mineral Resources Park.

The Eagles’ first road trip comes in round two when they take on Gold Coast at Heritage Bank Stadium on Saturday, September 9, before returning home to face Carlton in round three.

Fans won’t want to miss round seven as West Coast match up with last season’s premiers, Melbourne, with the home turf advantage at Mineral Resources Park on Sunday, October 15.

Round eight will see West Coast face Essendon at the iconic Windy Hill, before the team finishes the regular season with its final two games at home against Western Bulldogs and Adelaide.

Coach Michael Prior is pleased with the upcoming fixture.

“Six games in WA and four travel trips is heading in the right direction with where we think the fixturing should be,” Prior said.

“We’re working really hard in the pre-season. It’s fantastic to see the girls come back in the condition they have, and what better way to put all this hard work to the test than with the commencement of the 2023 season.”

West Coast’s first six games will be against teams that didn’t make finals last season, but Prior said it’s still too early to gauge the competition ahead of the new season.

“Every team is unpredictable, there’s been a lot of change with playing lists and movement of players through the expansion clubs, every team is still an unknown, and we’re up for the challenge,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to playing Melbourne, the reigning premiers, they’re the benchmark of the competition and it will give us a good indication of where we actually sit in the league.

“We’re also really excited to play Adelaide and Western Bulldogs, playing some high-quality teams will help our young group grow and continue to develop.

“Having three of our last four games at home is so important for our supporters.

“Our fans, friends and families will be back at our home venue supporting football and it’s terrific.

“We know the club has some exciting fan engagement plans for game day and we’re really looking forward to filling up Mineral Resources Park.”
