Emerging midfielder Zane Trew showed encouraging signs on a tough day out for the WAFL Eagles, leading the way for his side with 31 disposals in a 91-point loss to Claremont on Saturday afternoon.
Promising youngster Harry Barnett (six disposals, 12 hit outs) showed his range in the third with a thumping goal from outside 50, while Naitanui Academy product Tyrell Dewar (seven disposals) had a quiet day on the track.
Claremont 22.15 (147) overran the visiting West Coast 8.8 (56), the result seeing the Tigers jump to the top of the WAFL ladder.
With both teams coming into the game refreshed after the bye, Claremont’s small forwards proved to be handful early for West Coast, recording six goals in the first quarter.
Claremont’s ability to move the ball from deep in defence into their attacking zone further highlighted the Eagles' missed opportunities in their forward 50.
West Coast showed some promising signs in the second quarter, increasing their defensive pressure to hold up Claremont in front of goal, also recording the first goal of the term, a snap kick off the boot of last season’s leading goalkicker Josh Burke.
The Tigers turned up the heat in the third quarter, kicking eight goals for a 70-point lead going into the final term.
Jye Bolton (41 disposals) was a dominant force for Claremont, while Anthony Treacy (four goals) and Talon Delacey (four) were both damaging in front of goal.
West Coast will face East Fremantle in round 12 next Saturday at the WACA from 2:10pm.
