The West Coast Eagles have called in tall reinforcements for a Friday night showdown with Gold Coast at Optus Stadium.
The Eagles have included key defender Harry Edwards and developing ruckman Callum Jamieson in the team to tackle the Suns, while young defender Brady Hough has also been selected to add defensive cover.
Edwards has not played at any level for the last month after fracturing his wrist in a training mishap while Jamieson has played in the WAFL Eagles team in the last three weeks after suffering an early season ankle injury.
Hough, called in to replace veteran Shannon Hurn who has an adductor strain, has missed the last three games with a hamstring strain.
The move to add Jamieson to the team will mean that forward Jake Waterman will likely play a more traditional role, rather than providing ruck support for Bailey Williams against star Suns big man Jarrod Witts.
The presence of Mabior Chol, a genuine big man who also plays forward and partners Witts in the ruck, is the trigger for the tall reinforcements.
Also joining Hurn on the sidelines is young midfielder Jai Culley who will require knee surgery after damaging his ACL in the first quarter of last week’s game against Richmond.
Luke Edwards (managed) and Zane Trew (omitted) have been named on an extended interchange with midfielder Campbell Chesser and draftee Harry Barnett.
Chesser travelled as the emergency last week, did not play but completed some top up running post siren at the MCG.
