Seeking a water solution
Scott Selwood needs your help to provide clean drinking water for families in Cambodia
In conjunction with the West Coast Eagles program which assists the Tabitha Foundation, I am creating a project which can help improve the lives of communities in rural Cambodia.
Through the Tabitha Foundation’s community development program, I will be launching The Water Well project. I am aiming to raise $30,000 to install 200 water wells in communities in need before November 2013. These water wells will provide clean, safe water for drinking, cooking, washing and bathing to over 1000 poor rural Cambodian families, which includes over 6000 children.
As Cambodia receives next to no rain from November to April each year, providing access to safe, reliable water is a vital part of the Tabitha Foundation’s community development program. Without water wells, children drink from polluted rivers and ponds, often suffering from diarrhoea and other infectious diseases – even death – as a result.
A mere $150 is enough to fund one well and provide fresh water for five Cambodian families (about 40 people). Each well is 85% funded by donations through the project, with Cambodian families contributing the balance via the Tabitha Foundation’s savings program.
Having clean water is something I take for granted. It’s something everyone should have access to and I hope this project goes some way to providing safe water to as many Cambodian families as possible.
I’m asking the Western Australian community, football fans and the broader population to help me make a difference to the lives and health of these Cambodian families by donating to the project.
