Midfield bulls Elliot Yeo and Jai Culley will be tested at main training this week as they continue their progression from calf injuries.
Yeo was ruled out of round one following a minor strain, while West Coast took a no-risk approach with Culley ahead of the WAFL practice match win over Claremont.
“Elliot we’ll give as long as possible. We’ll make a decision later in the week with how he goes with main training on Thursday and make a decision on his availability from there,” Head of Health Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au
“Jai has recovered. We took a no-risk approach with minor awareness last week, but as a young player we want him to be 100 per cent.
“He’s feeling great and just has to train this week to be available.”
The Eagles will again be without star ruckman Nic Naitanui (Achilles) against Greater Western Sydney this Sunday, but four-time All-Australian defender Jeremy McGovern will play after being managed through training on Tuesday.
“Nic is making progress, he’s working hard on building strength through the calf to take the load of the Achilles but he won’t be available for this week,” Finucane said.
“Jeremy, like a number of our veteran players have lighter starts to the week recovering from the game.
“He’ll full train later in the week so it was just load management earlier in the week for Jeremy.”
There was also encouraging news for utility Josh Rotham, who took part in Tuesday’s skills session after arm surgery recently.
“Josh is almost two weeks since his surgery on stabilising the fracture in his arm. Feeling really comfortable, joined skills today, which was great to see,” Finucane said.
“He will progress his running and skills this week and then look at introducing bodywork and contact next week so he’s a possibility for a couple of weeks’ time.”
Speedy half-back Coby Burgiel will miss the WAFL Eagles’ practice match against East Perth this Saturday after hurting a hamstring in the exciting win over Claremont, while young tall Jack Williams (spleen) is making progress.
“Jack is coming up to a milestone week for him. He’s got a repeat scan at six weeks, which will really dictate the direction that his rehab progress goes from there,” Finucane said.
“Unfortunately, it looks like Coby has strained a hamstring in the WAFL practice match on Saturday.
“It was very late in the game so it’s only really appeared at the early part of training this week. He’s got a scan tonight and we’ll have further information from there.”
