Another impressive match simulation session, more players pressing for consideration for early opportunities, was the feature of a West Coast Eagles match simulation session at Mineral Resources Park today.
While the usual assortment of established stars stood out – Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass in defence, Tim Kelly and Elliot Yeo through the middle, Nic Naitanui in the ruck and key forwards Oscar Allen and Jack Darling in attack – several others pressed their case.
Young forward Jack Williams looked impressive and was also swung into the ruck, Jai Culley and Reuben Ginbey continued to shine in the midfield while second year defender Brady Hough was also efficient.
While Allen and Darling kicked seven goals between them, Darling injured an ankle deep into the session and will be assessed in coming days.
Melbourne recruit Jayden Hunt kicked the opening goal when playing on a wing and also offered rebound from defence while captain Luke Shuey played some time both midfield and across half-back before sitting out the final stanza.
Liam Duggan, Campbell Chesser, Shannon Hurn and Jake Waterman played the first term before heading away to continue their preparations on Oval 2.
Connor West was lively throughout while Zane Trew also had some good moments and star forward Liam Ryan was again impressive.
Another player from the 2022 draft intake, defender Coby Burgiel impressed with his field kicking while Dom Sheed was a possession vacuum through the middle.
Ruckmen Callum Jamieson and Bailey Williams also had an impact as the club continues to build towards round one against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on March 18.
