Nestled in the Wheatbelt region of WA, the town of Moora have been coming together for over 20 years raising community spirit and Christmas cheer by racing old hospital beds up and down the main street for the Moora Bed Race and Street Festival.
Members of the Eagles community and game development team, Sam Rotham and Janelle Marangon, past player Bradd Dalziell and current AFLW players Krstel Petrevski and Aisling McCarthy made the journey to support the town’s initiative.
The team visited the local St Joseph’s Primary School, collecting their racing bed which had been decorated with the ‘under the sea’ theme by the students at the school.
Providing an opportunity to engage with the community, the team held an Eagles Freestyle Footy clinic for the locals of Moora and surrounding towns where participants could get to know the Eagles past and current stars and learn a few skills.
The Moora community came together for the street festival which saw people come from towns near and far to participate and watch the famous Moora Bed Race.
The Eagles ran against a team put together from Dandaragan Football Club in the celebrity race with the somewhat local team proving too good in the end.
Eagles Regional Community officer, Sam Rotham said the wonderful initiative was evidently enjoyed by the whole town of Moora.
“It was a great event pulled together by the Moora community, which was capped off by a massive $18,000 raised," Sam said.
“The money raised will go towards the roles of chaplaincy at the local schools of Moora.
“A massive thank you to the Moora community for having the team and to the students at St Joseph’s Primary School for their efforts in decorating the bed.”
The Eagles are committed to uniting, connecting and exciting communities regardless of geographical location.
