Entered the season with many believing 2022 would be his swansong, but the ever-reliable half-back continued to defy Father Time in another superb campaign.

Hurn’s steady hand in defence alongside star full-back Tom Barrass was invaluable during arguably the most testing season for the team in his 17-year career and he played all-but three matches to take his club games record to a phenomenal 320 appearances.

A calf injury slowed the now 35-year-old between rounds nine to 11 but he bounced back and finished the year full of running to comfortably take out second place in the John Worsfold Medal.

It was the second runner-up finish for the 2018 premiership skipper, 13 years after his first, and built on the legacy of an all-time West Coast great.

Standout performance: Holding back the Blue tide

In a year where the football spent far too much time in West Coast’s backline Hurn amassed plenty of the Sherrin, and he was in everything against Carlton in round 17 at Optus Stadium.

It was another tough loss for the Eagles in a long season, but the veteran never gave anything less than 100 per cent effort and he was the top-ranked player on the ground.

Hurn finished with 28 disposals, 12 rebound 50s, 10 marks, five intercept marks and 699 metres gained in a polished performance.
