More than 1200 charitable runners and walkers are expected to descend on City Beach for the 2018 Sunshine Beach Run on Sunday, February 18.
Founded by West Coast Eagles physiotherapist Chris Perkin, the Sunshine Beach Run raises valuable funds for Red Nose, a charity striving to eradicate sudden infant death syndrome.
Perkin created the event following the tragic loss of his stillborn son Jake and wife Cindy in 2009.
West Coast players Jack Darling and Mark LeCras are proud ambassadors of the Sunshine Beach Run. Several other Eagles have also signalled their intention to attend their event in support of Perkin and Red Nose.
Perkin said the Sunshine Beach Run was a great event for all ages.
“The event is designed for everyone, including young children, to come along and be part of a bright, fun and positive event and remember a lost baby or child or simply raise money for a great cause,” he said.
“People can participate in the walking or running events and enjoy what is on offer during the day – including two fun races this year – our mascot race and celebrity beach sprint.”
The Celebrity Beach Sprint will feature West Coast Fever’s Ingrid Colyer, retired Wildcat Matt Knight and WA athlete and Perth Running Club coach Emily Longo.
They’ll go head-to-head with a City of Perth Surf Lifesaving champion, Christchurch Grammar’s sprint champion, North Beach and Scarborough Footy Club’s quickest bolters and Dennis Teale, from race sponsor BOQ.
West Coast’s own Rick the Rock will feature in the mascot race, which will be run at 7.30am.
He will take on the Community Newspaper Group’s Mr Newsie, Royal Life Saving WA’s Dippy the Duck, The Pamphleteers’ Rupert and Red Nose’s mascot Sid.
The event will also boast mini-market stalls, face painting, water slides, bouncy castles and loads of entertainment for the family to enjoy.
Participants can walk or run 1km, 3km or 5km. Walkers and runners can register online until midnight 17th February at sunshinebeachrun.com.au or on the day before 8am.
Spectators are more than welcome to come down and watch the action.
