The West Coast Eagles are set to have a healthy squad to pick from for the AFLW season-opener against Port Adelaide at Mineral Resources Park.
The Eagles' short injury list includes exciting defender Zoe Wakfer, who is a chance to be available if she can pass her fitness test coming back from illness.
Wakfer was part of the Eagles' talented draft crop in June and will hope to put her hand up to take on the Power.
“Zoe has had a gradual progression off her illness and had a good training load on the weekend,” Head of Health Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“She will be assessed on her response to training as well as her results during week will determine her availability to play.”
Three injured Eagles are already on the inactive list before the start of the season, with Shane Davison and Lauren Wakfer out with knee injuries and Evie Gooch sidelined for the season with a wrist injury.
Davison unfortunately was walked from the field in the Eagles' last trial match against Fremantle last weekend after suffering a serious knee injury.
“Davison is preparing to have surgery on Friday for an ACL. As a result, she is doing her preparation work to get the muscles switched on as much as possible,” Finucane explained
“She’ll want to get some measures she’ll want to reach post-surgery which is coming up in only three days.”
Lauren Wakfer however is a lot further ahead in her road to recovery from her knee reconstruction and showing good signs as she continues to work hard on getting back to fitness.
“Lauren is nine weeks down the road since her injury and one of the things we’ve been looking at is the symmetry of her muscles on the left and right sides which she’s making good progress in that regard," Finucane said.
“She’s on the right trajectory however we’ve just got to be patient and trust the recovery process.”
Out with a wrist injury Evie Gooch has since joined the side’s coaching ranks as a development coach.
“Evie has to see her surgeon again in a couple of week’s time," Finucane said.
"She just needs to be patient with that injury and look after it over the long-term will be her priority.”
