Pacey forward Jack Petruccelle and energetic midfielder Connor West have been confirmed as inclusions for the challenge against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Sunday as the match committee settled on the starting 22.
Both will resume from short-term lay-offs, with Petruccelle missing the last two matches with a hamstring strain. West was the medical sub last week after missing a couple of games with an Achilles issue, but he was not required.
So the wash-up from selection is that champion forward Josh Kennedy will be spared the ardours of the longest road trip in the AFL as he takes a short sojourn while teammates Josh Rotham, Rhett Bazzo and Alex Witherden are injured.
West and Petruccelle join dual Club Champion Nic Naitanui and exciting forward Willie Rioli as the inclusions.
With the WAFL Eagles having a bye this weekend, the club took 25 players in the travel party – including key forward Hugh Dixon, utility player Samo Petrevski-Seton and small forward Zac Langdon. One of them will be the medical sub.
Also making the trip were injured defender Tom Cole and utility player Elliot Yeo who will continue their quest to resume playing before the curtain is drawn on the season.
Tomorrow marks a big occasion for the club with three significant milestones being reached – Andrew Gaff plays his 250th game for the club, Adam, Simpson will coach the team for the 200th time and midfielder Tim Kelly will play his 100th senior game – including 48 for Geelong.
