Dollar Dress Day
Staker and Rosa judge the best dressed in a fundraising event for the PMH Foundation
A fundraiser for the foundation, as well as a chance for patients and staff to get out of their pyjamas, scrubs or suits, Dollar Dress Day has seen some wild and crazy costumes filter through the wards of Princess Margaret Hospital on this special day for over ten years, with participants donating a gold coin to join in the fun.
And it’s not only PMH who takes part in this whimsical day. Schools and businesses across the state are invited to “dress up, dress down and dress differently” to raise money for Western Australia’s sick children, and they can nominate any day to participate.
Expert adjudicator Brent Staker was very impressed by the level of creativity displayed throughout the wards.
“I visited the ‘nursery rhyme’ ward, that was a favourite,” he mused. “The ‘around the world in 80 days’ and ‘jungle’ themes were really good as well.
“I was a very fair judge. I gave out more tens than on 'It Takes Two', so I’ve done a good job I think!
“It was great to see all the patients and staff who took part and the different themes for each ward. They certainly go to extreme lengths to make sure they impress the judges.”
Since the event first started in 1996, over $240,000 has been raised for the foundation.
