On April 15 at Optus Stadium, West Coast Eagles will face the Sydney Swans and fight for the HMAS Sydney II trophy.

HMAS Sydney II was a distinguished fighting ship, sunk with all 645 crew in a mutually destructive engagement with the German Auxillary Cruiser Kormoran on 19 November 1941, some 112 miles west of Shark Bay, Western Australia.

Every season, Sydney (representing the homeport of the HMAS Sydney II) and West Coast, (representing the state of her final operations and resting place) play a commemorative match in memory of the sacrifice made by the HMAS Sydney II crew and their families.

Royal Australian Navy and HMAS Sydney Association volunteers will be raising funds during this match for Legacy WA to help care for the families of veterans who have either lost their lives or health as a result of their Australian military service.

The HMAS Sydney II Trophy was donated to the Eagles and Swans by the Finding Sydney Foundation. The game honours the memory of the sacrifice made by HMAS Sydney's men and their families through the presentation of the HMAS Sydney II Commemorative Trophy and Best on Ground Trophy.

The West Coast Eagles recognises the outstanding service of our men and women in the Australian Defence Force.
