Last Thursday more than 100 AFLW members gathered at Mineral Resources Park for the AFLW Member Sundowner.
Guests were treated to delicious canapes served in the club’s function room, overlooking the AFLW training session taking place on the oval below.
Hosted by Elle Georgiou, the evening was an opportunity to recognise and thank the members in the room for their loyal support ahead of the 2022 season, the club’s third in the NAB AFL Women’s Competition.
As it happened, the 2022 fixture was released just earlier that day, allowing the club to give the members a glimpse of the season ahead, beginning with three exciting home matches in a row.
The guests also had the opportunity to hear from club insiders, with Head of Women’s Football, Michelle Cowan, taking to the stage as the first guest speaker of the night.
Cowan spoke of her football journey, from coaching at WAFL level to her current role in the blue and gold, and gave a preview of the upcoming season.
Cowan’s appearance was followed by a Q&A with two players, Ashlee Atkins and Mel Caulfield, who gave an insight into the life of an AFLW player.
Both players discussed their football careers and AFLW highlights, and their hopes for the future of the women’s game.
The event wrapped up with Atkins and Caulfield assisting with the door prize draw, with four lucky members taking home a piece of signed memorabilia.
AFLW membership includes free entry to all home matches in 2022, with prices ranging from just $40 for juniors to $50 for adults.
