Jamie Cripps’ elite running ability came to the fore as the hard-working West Coast forward surged to the finish line and claimed the club's 2km time trial honours on Wednesday.

Faced with hot and blustery conditions, Cripps’ staying power was remarkable as he took the crown at the WA Athletics Stadium.

The 29-year-old, who has looked in tremendous touch on the training track this pre-season, cinched first place ahead of Zac Langdon and Tom Cole, who were neck and neck for much of the gruelling run.

Dom Sheed, who trumped Cole back in January to claim the title, also produced another notable run as he finished in fourth place.

Regular frontrunners Andrew Gaff, Jack Redden (shoulder) and Liam Duggan (knee) were among those absent from Wednesday’s run.
