Last week was a huge week for Rick the Rock, who celebrated two of his favourite days of the year – the Western Derby and annual Rick’s Rookies Training Day!
More than 400 primary-school aged members descended on the club last Tuesday to watch the team complete an open training session before their clash with cross-town rivals Fremantle.
For those looking for something a little more active, there were draft combine activities located at the Gate 20 concourse that allowed Rookie members to test their football skills and record their results on a scorecard.
With handball targets, an obstacle course, a kicking speed testing, static jumping and measuring height and arm span, it was a good opportunity for members to test a wide range of football skills.
As well as the football-based activities, McDonalds brought down its lottery giveaway wheel, the West Coast Eagles bouncy castle was in action and there was free face painting for young and old.
The City of Subiaco also ran their ‘Memories of Subi’ photo booth at Gate 9, which allowed parents and their children to take a photo and record their favourite football memories of Subiaco together.
As training moved up a gear, Rick the Rock and MCs Joe Wear and Bradd Dalzeill welcomed ex-player Adam Selwood to the sidelines to explain the drills the players were working on.
He also spoke to the club’s Rookies and their families about his role at the club, including his involvement with West Coast’s AFLW 2019 bid and its ‘We’re Ready’ campaign.
As training started to wrap up, the players made their way to the Gate 8 concourse for a signing session for Rookie members.
If you’ve missed out on the first two Rick’s Rookies events for 2017, don’t worry! We still have one more happening at the end of the year!
