West Coast recruit Sam Petrevski-Seton can’t wait to hit the ground running as an Eagle once he clears quarantine this weekend, and is looking forward to reuniting with some former junior teammates at Mineral Resources Park.

The talented Claremont product came through the under-18s ranks with Jake Waterman and Josh Rotham, and will link up with the pair again following his trade from Carlton in exchange for pick No.52 on Thursday.

Petrevski-Seton played 94 games for the Blues after being taken via pick No.6 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, while WA under-18s teammates Rotham and Waterman came to the Eagles through selections 37 and 77, respectively.

The 23-year-old’s classy ball use appealed to West Coast and he was excited to join an Eagles squad determined to bounce back after a disappointing campaign.

“Looking at the list and the consistency as a football club they’ve had over the years (was appealing),” Petrevski-Seton told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“Also, I think the connection I already have with the club playing with a few of my new teammates throughout my junior footy like Jake Waterman and Josh Rotham - stoked to be playing alongside them again.

“Also really grateful for the opportunity to be an Eagle and I think it’s just the next chapter in life and hopefully I really can get going in my career.”

Hailing from Halls Creek, the remote Kimberley town in WA’s north-east, Petrevski-Seton’s family are especially thrilled their son will be closer to home – and getting to Perth to watch his games will be much easier than Victoria.

“100 per cent they are (excited), especially my father and mother. To get to Melbourne from Halls Creek is an eight-hour drive (to Broome) and two plane trips,” he said.

“Being in the same state now, back home, it’s much easier to see family and they can travel to come watch me play.

“It’s a huge relief for them.”

After playing 80 of 83 possible games across a variety of roles in his first four AFL seasons, Petrevski-Seton was mainly stationed across half-back this year and averaged 15.2 disposals and 4.3 marks from 13 games.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson has already indicated he is considering using Petrevski-Seton further up the field, where the new Eagle believes he is best suited.

“I think where I can play my best footy is going through the midfield-forward roles,” Petrevski-Seton said.

“I think it’s going to be important to apply that forward pressure … using my ball skills and hit a few targets coming out of the forward 50.”
