Where and when: The Gabba, Saturday, August 21, 4.35pm (2.35pm AWST)

TV: Live on 7 in Perth, Fox Footy and Kayo

Last time we met: Brisbane Lions 10.14 (74) def. West Coast 6.8 (44) at the Gabba, round three, 2020

A five-goal third-quarter onslaught was the difference as Brisbane handed the Eagles their second-straight loss upon the AFL season’s resumption. Liam Ryan kicked three goals to give West Coast a sniff and the visitors led by four points at half-time, but despite the best efforts of influential ruck Nic Naitanui and prolific wingman Andrew Gaff the Eagles couldn’t kick a winning score at the Gabba.

Form: (most recent first)

Brisbane WWLWL

West Coast LLLWW

What it means for the Eagles: It’s all or nothing. Three-straight defeats means the Eagles have lost control of their finals destiny and must beat Brisbane in the Lions’ den and then hope either Greater Western Sydney or Essendon lose to Carlton or Collingwood, respectively, to jump back into the top eight.

The stat: West Coast and the Brisbane Lions have played 34 times – with 21 of those games at the Gabba – and the Eagles hold a 22-12 win-loss advantage.

Tom Cole could have the key shutdown job on Charlie Cameron

The match-up: Tom Cole v Charlie Cameron

This might normally have been a job for Brad Sheppard but with the All Australian backman missing due to concussion the huge task of shutting down Brisbane’s in-form dangerman could fall to Tom Cole. The competitive and quick defender has enjoyed arguably his best season in his sixth year at the club and is one of only five Eagles to play every game. He will have his hands full on Cameron, who has booted 44 goals this year, including a bag of six last round in the Lions’ 85-point drubbing of Collingwood.

Elliot Yeo will play his 150th game for West Coast against his former club

It’s a big week for: Elliot Yeo

Eight years after his trade back to the west from Brisbane, the Eagles star will notch his 150th game in blue and gold against his former club. It will mean plenty to the heavily invested clubman, who will qualify for life membership, and comes after a long-term battle with osteitis pubis that frustrated Yeo and fans alike. Since returning in round 11, the dual club champion has gone from strength to strength and is back near his best as the raging bull in midfield, with promising signs for coming seasons with more football and pre-season training under his belt.

Big call: Yeo to rack up a season-highs for disposals (Currently 21) and tackles (eight) in a best afield display.
