West Coast has bolstered its big man stocks by securing the services of former Gold Coast Suns ruckman Keegan Brooksby for season 2019.
The Eagles pounced on an opportunity to recruit Brooksby during the recently created pre-season supplemental selection period, which allows clubs to snap up previously-listed players who have spent a season or more out of the game.
He has agreed to sign with West Coast as of December 1.
Brooksby played 14 games across three seasons at the Gold Coast from 2015 to 2017, his most productive season being 2016 when he represented the Suns on eight occasions.
The 28-year-old, who is listed at 198cm and 99kg, captained South Adelaide in the SANFL this year, where was the standout ruckman in South Australia’s state league competition.
He averaged an impressive 35 hitouts and 15 disposals per game in 2018.
West Coast Eagles list manager Brady Rawlings said the club had kept a close eye on Brooksby’s form throughout the year and felt he was a very good addition to the club’s roster ahead of the upcoming premiership campaign.
“Keegan is a physical ruckman who competes strongly around the ground,” Rawlings said.
“He adds more depth to our ruck department after the departure of Scott Lycett and the delayed start to the season for Nic Naitanui.”
