Construction of the Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct is now 50 per cent complete and remains on schedule to be open for the start of the 2018 AFL season.

More than 11,000 tonnes (74 per cent) of structural steel has been installed to create the stadium frame along with more than 3,200 or 80 per cent of the concrete seating platforms, which the stadium seats will be affixed in mid-2017.

It is a busy construction site with more than 120 truck movements in and out of the Burswood Peninsula site each day equating to 3000 per month.

Additionally, there are approximately 560 workers on site which will peak at more than 1100 in December. More than 5800 workers will be involved during the three-year construction phase and 2800 have been part of delivering the project to date. 

Perth Stadium will have the two biggest stadium super screens in the southern hemisphere, measuring 340m2 each.

Located at the eastern and western ends of the stadium, the super screens will show live action, replays, statistics, video displays plus fan generated content, which will only be available to stadium patrons.

These super screens, along with an additional 1000 smaller television screens will be installed throughout the stadium, continuing the focus on delivering a fans-first stadium.

Whilst construction is more than 50 per cent complete, there is still a large amount of work to complete ahead of opening in 2018, including:

  • Installation of the remaining 26 per cent of steel to complete the Stadium frame;
  • Installation of the remaining 20 per cent  of the concrete seating platforms;
  • Installation of more than 20 roof trusses plus 42.2km (a marathon!) of roof fabric;
  • Installation of the remaining 70 per cent of glass panelling around the stadium;
  • Commence installation of the aluminium facade that wraps around the stadium;
  • Fit out of the internal rooms within the stadium including the catering and toilet facilities, function rooms and premium product areas and team facilities;
  • Planting of 150,000 seedlings and 583 mature trees across the Chevron Parkland, around the 'Wandering' artwork and the community oval in the north of the precinct;
  • Testing of the stadium's super screens;
  • Preparation and installation of the playing field infrastructure, drainage and grass turf;
  • Construction and maintenance of the practice and drop-in wickets;
  • Construction of the Community Arbour;
  • Testing and commissioning of the entire Perth Stadium and Sports Precinct.
