The West Coast Eagles have added Dom Sheed, Malcolm Karpany, Tom Barrass and Dylan Main to their list at tonight’s AFL Draft. Sheed, Barrass and Main are all West-Australians, while Karpany hails from South Australia.

Heading into the draft with picks 11, 31, 43 and 49, the Eagles used their first selection to gain the services of Subiaco’s Sheed.

As captain of Western Australia in the Under 18’s Championships, Sheed experienced the highs and lows of football in a memorable performance against Vic Country at Simonds Stadium, where he collected 29 disposals, won six clearances and kicked four goals. He was awarded the Larke Medal as the best player in this year's NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Sheed is a strong, physical midfielder who is good at winning contested possessions. His ball use is one of his best attributes, especially when using the ball long by foot. He is a tremendous reader of the play, is cool under pressure, and has the body type to be ready to go in round one next year.

At 31, the Eagles selected Malcolm Karpany from the Woodville West-Torrens Football Club. Karpany won the Alan Stewart Medal as best player in his club’s SANFL under-18 Grand Final triumph last month; he is a classy midfielder who also has the ability to kick goals. He has a penetrating left foot and elite recovery, plus agility, which allows him to side-step through traffic. Good mark for his size and has clean hands
.
Next, at pick 43, we selected Tom Barrass from Claremont. A tall defender with good ability to read the ball in flight, it’s common to see Barrass come off his opponent at the right time to affect the contest and use the ball smartly on the counter-attack. He possesses a booming but accurate left foot that can carry the lines, and is complemented with a strong overhead mark.

And with their final selection, pick 49, the Eagles selected South Fremantle’s Dylan Main. Main is a versatile medium forward who is strong overhead for his size and has excellent skills. Main makes good decisions under pressure, particularly in close.
